Family tribute to “loving” daughter
Detectives get 30-hour extension to question 19-year-old suspect

THE FAMILY of a teenager brutally murdered in Reading have described her as a “loving daughter”.
Asha Muneer, 18, was attacked on a footpath close to the A33 in Reading as she made her way to meet friends on Tuesday evening.
The 18-year-old, who lived with her family in the Whitley area of Reading, had left work at the nearby Laura Ashley store and had been on her way to McDonalds where she had planned to meet up with some friends.
The student, who was a pupil at Highdown School, in Caversham, died from multiple stab wounds.
Detectives investigating her murder have been granted a 30 hour extension to question a 19-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder.
In a brief statement her devastated family said: “Our family have lost a loving, beautiful daughter and we are trying to come to terms with how she died and the void that is has left in our lives.”
Det Supt Karen Trego, who is leading the investigations, said: “We continue to keep an open mind as to the motive for Asha’s death.
“I appreciate that this is an incident of great concern for the Reading community and I would like to reassure them that the team of detectives working on the investigation are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry.
“This is obviously a deeply distressing time for those that knew and loved Asha and I ask that the privacy of her family, school friends and work colleagues is respected.”
